David Foster, Professor of Political Science, joined Ashland University in 1998. He teaches courses in political philosophy and international relations and, in the Masters of American History and Government program, courses on Alexis de Tocqueville, the political thought of Mark Twain, and the Federalist Papers. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University and a Master of Arts and PhD in political science from the University of Toronto.
He has published numerous articles, including: “Mark Twain on the American Character,” “Gambling on Virtue,” “Israel’s Quest for Security,” “Civic Education,” “It’s a Buyer’s Market: ‘Disposable Professors,’ Grade Inflation, and Other Problems,” “On the Goal of Liberal Education,” “The Bible and Natural Freedom in John Locke’s Political Thought,” and “Taming the Father: John Locke’s Critiques of Patriarchal Fatherhood.”
