Four New Additions to the Ashbrook Board

July 1, 1997

Ohio Treasurer J. Kenneth Blackwell, State Representative Bill Harris, Ashland native Bradley R. Kastan, and Ashland University Trustee Dr. Emanuel Sandberg are the newest additions to the Ashbrook Center’s Board of Advisors.

"The Wright Brothers were born in Ohio, and nearby Akron is a world leader in polymer science and industry. But the Ashbrook Center’s exports will be numbered among Ohio’s greatest," said Blackwell.

"With research and development of a different kind, the Center produces great civic-minded thinkers. These men and women will guide science, industry, politics and society. I am honored to be on the Board of Advisors of a forum that presents conservative views and standards with enthusiasm and integrity."
Blackwell has been Ohio’s state treasurer since 1994 and has also served as mayor of Cincinnati.

"I have the unique opportunity to observe the outstanding performance of these young scholars as interns and full-time employees in the state legislature and governmental agencies," said Bill Harris. "In my opinion, there is a great opportunity and need for Ashbrook Scholars in state and federal governments, academic institutions, business and industry in our great state and throughout the country." Harris, who represents Ohio’s 93rd District in the Ohio House of Representatives, is also assistant majority whip. He is a resident of Ashland and owns Bill Harris Chevrolet/Geo.

Bradley Kastan is senior vice president of Paine Webber in Columbus, Ohio. An Ashland native, Kastan worked with both the namesake of the Center, Congressman John Ashbrook and it’s founder State Senator, Thomas Van Meter.

"Given my relationship with both Tom and John, joining the Board of the Ashbrook Center is a great honor and responsibility. I look forward to helping promote the work of the Center," said Kastan.
Emanuel Sandberg, the Board’s representative from the Ashland University Board of Trustees agrees.

"The Ashbrook Center and its program is one of the best on campus," said Sandberg. "Their commitment to academic standards and intellectual integrity sets a standard for the rest of the campus programs. As a member of the Ashland University Board of Trustees, it is a privilege to serve on the Ashbrook Center Board of Advisors."
