Strengthening Constitutional Self-Government

Master of Arts in American History and Government

Course of Study

Just one of many original historical documents teachers study at the Ashbrook Center

The Ashbrook Center at Ashland University’s Master of Arts in American History and Government (MAHG) program was designed to address the need of social studies teachers for rigorous graduate-level study in the content of history and government. Offered as convenient weeklong summer seminars and interactive live online courses throughout the academic year, each course focuses on the study and interpretation of the materials from which we build our understanding of the past: original historical documents.

The MAHG program offers courses in what social studies teachers will teach every day in the classroom. Courses include topics such as the American Founding, the causes and effects of the Civil War, and the role of the progressive movement in shaping the modern United States.
