Michael S. Joyce

Where and when

Michael S. Joyce is founder and President and Chief Executive Officer of Americans for Community and Faith-Centered Enterprise, based in Washington, D.C., and the Foundation for Community and Faith-Centered Enterprise based in Phoenix, Arizona. From 1986-2001 he was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. His twenty-five year career in private philanthropy has included leadership of the John M. Olin Foundation in New York, and the Goldseker Foundation in Baltimore.

Michael S. Joyce

Throughout his career, Mr. Joyce has seen and compared the ideas, the actions and the results of thousands of programs that have sought to address the challenges of modern life. Consequently, he has become convinced that the best hope for our times lies in the renewal of the institutions of civil society.

Beginning his career as a teacher of history and political science at the secondary and college levels, Mr. Joyce spent six years with the educational Research Council of America before entering the world of private foundations. Mr. Joyce has served on many presidential and national commissions, including the Presidential Transition Team at the outset of the Reagan years in 1980. In the fall of 1993, he joined William Kristol to found the Project for the Republican Future. He is director of Cobalt Corporation, Harp and Eagle, Ltd., the Pinkerton Foundation, the Philanthropy Roundtable and is a member of the Selection Committee of the Clare Booth Luce Fund. Mr. Joyce holds degrees in history and philosophy and a Ph.D. in Politics and education.
