Russell Kirk

Where and when

Often referred to as the prophet of conservatism, Russell Kirk has been described by Time and Newsweek magazines as one of America’s leading thinkers.

In 1981, President Ronald Reagan wrote that “Dr. Kirk has helped renew a generation’s interest and knowledge of…the underpinnings and the intellectual infrastructure of the conservative revival in our nation.”

The author of 23 books and several hundred periodical essays and short stories, Kirk is probably best known for his book, “The Conservative Mind.” Published in 1953, this book is perhaps the most widely reviewed and discussed book of political theory in this century.

Kirk has addressed audiences on more than 400 American campuses, and has appeared frequently on both educational and commercial radio and television stations.
