Jonathan White is Associate Professor of American Studies at Christopher Newport University and is on the Board of Directors at the Abraham Lincoln Institute. He has authored several books, including A Philadelphia Perspective: The Civil War Diary of Sidney George Fisher; Guide to Research in Federal Judicial History; and most recently, Abraham Lincoln and Treason in the Civil War: The Trials of John Merryman.
Dr. White received a BA at Pennsylvania State University and a MA at the University of Maryland at College Park, where he also gained his Ph.D. His dissertation, “‘To Aid Their Rebel Friends’: Politics and Treason in the Civil War North,” won the 2010 Hay-Nicolay Dissertation Prize for the best dissertation in Lincoln studies and the 2008 E.B. and Jean Smith Prize in Political History by the Department of History.
Dr. White has taught courses in American studies, and his research interests include the U.S. Constitution, the American Civil War, and treason in American History.
